nothing left to do

July 3, 2006 at 1:18 pm (everything in between)

The Leonard Cohen movie is coming out soon. And it is not showing anywhere at all. I live in fuckin’ california forty-five minutes from san diego and an hour and a half from LA and I cannot find anywhere that is showing it:(
It got amazing reviews and awards from the festivals.

The comp is arriving today. Curt just has to put it together and install some programs.
I bought The Village and watched it again. Why does no one else seem to like that film?

…please someone comment and say you love it.

Monday Wrap-up

June 26, 2006 at 8:34 am (everything in between)

So tuesday’s interview went well. It took 15 mins and Liz got her greencard. So it was kind of a joke. I suppose they just want you to come in person to see you or something. I dunno. But get this:

The interview was in Chula Vista, like 5 mins from the border. We had to be there by 7:15am. So we left around 6 and right when we got on the freeway, my tire popped. We drove all the way to Chula Vista on the spare, going 55 mph. It was quite nerveracking.

On saturday we went to a Padres game with my parents. It was enjoyable, but the best part was eating at the Corvette Diner in Hillcrest on the way down. The Corvette Diner is the only place that serves the infamous Rory Burger. What’s on a Rory burger, you might ask: Peanut butter and bacon. It’s to die for.

And we are going to be getting a comp at home soon. We bought the desk this weekend. It is very spiffy. Because we both have no experience in the comp retail world, we got as much advice as we could from friends, and I think we are going to end up buying parts online and having Curt, our comp-savvy friend, put it together. (wasn’t that a lovely run-on). It was his idea. He said you get more for your buck, and you don’t get all of the lame, useless shit that bogs up systems like you often do with storebought packaged desktops.

I do plan on blogging more. It’s just been one of those months so far. But expect more soon, buhdees

who knows what now

June 8, 2006 at 10:26 am (everything in between)

when you pay 300 to fix the starter block for you car, it's not cool for a tire to pop and need replacing 3 days later. thats 87 more bucks with labor.

but you can now call me 'tire changer dan' cause this has happened so many times that i can switch the spare on in under 10 minutes. that includes the POS manual crank i have to use. the tire popped on the way to work, and i still got to work on time. I am not a handyman nor am i a carman, but i can change a friggin tire like noman.

i have been making fruit smoothies everyday. they are great. and now i dont feel as bad about all the wine i drink. cause i got my fruit intake down! what am i sayin. ive never felt bad about the wine i down nightly. it tastes good and it costs 2 dollas a bottle. beat that.

so im at work pickin my nose trying to think of something else to write cause since i started this blog i better keep it going for longer than a month and a half but i feel i have nothing to write ever ever ever. can someone give me an idea. i didnt realize that a fulltime job and living on my own with my wife would sap so much of my creativity. i know its all no excuse for laziness.

anyways im going to the cask ale beer fest on friday, seaworld/delmarfair on saturday, and stone brewery private party on sunday. so keep it real.

ever have a month in which you have many fun things planned (cask ale fest, seaworld, del mar fair, private party at stone brewery, padres game..) but you have absolutely no enthusiasm and secretly wish it were already over?

go and find a cd of franc black's (pixies) demos. DO IT NOW.

i wish i had more to write.

i was an ardent capitalist. it has only taken one year of working for the man on the plantation, seeing the disparity between the money the mgmt makes and the money we make to change that. im still not a socialist though. i just think there should be laws allowing me to wait i could get in trouble for writing that here.

i used to really believe in representitive gov't, too. Now I don't understand why anyone would. Look at all the fools. LOOK AT THEM. Or just admire all  the tv shows and hollywood and this massive amount of crap that people consider good and o 9/11 happened so go ahead and take away our rights. But I'm not much of a monarchist or anarchist, either. So i guess i believe in a revised form of representitive gov't … the one in which only my vote counts.

my life has been a crude attempt of emulating the main character of updike's rabbit books. Harry Angstrom. he's my hero. i wonder, tho, if i'd be better off emulating that lovable protagonist from confederecy of dunces. i would have to gain a lot of weight, but other than that i think i already got his mindset/worldview (i hate this word) down.

and i have been jealous, for quite some time now, of the entire cast from 'the decline of the american empire.' i want their life(s) (the talking only about sex part at least).

and and and i have learned that you can make fun of a girl's farts, but not her poops. who'd've guessed? apparently, they get embarrased by the latter. would've been nice to have known this.

Lizzy Mcfizzy

May 24, 2006 at 9:03 am (everything in between)

This is my official Liz post.

Though she hasn’t been working at the bagel shop for even a month, she already got offered the Shift Manager position. Yah. They love her there.

And here’s a warning to the single guys out there. When Liz and I were dating it was clear that we had different music tastes. I like good music and she likes hip-hop and whatever crap they play on the radio. But she said she liked my music and that she doesn’t even listen to music much so its not a big deal that I don’t want to hear hers.

Yeah, that lasted long. Gradually, she plays her music more and more. It’s awful. Most of it sounds like some sixth grader whining about relationships. It’s all written with monosyllabic words forming the simplest sentences ever, topped with too many cliches to count. “It’s like I can’t breath” should not be repeated as a chorus.

We have a lot of ‘our music’. I wish we could just listen to that. Yes, all of the ‘our music’ is bands that were mine and then she liked them. But, theres a few she likes way more than I ever did (songs:ohia, decemberists). I keep hoping she’ll get completely out of the radio/hip-hop scene and just stick to those.

A much cuter thing that Liz does is the way she gets into the things I like. It always goes from utterly opposed to completely in love with. The flip-flop can take anywhere from days, to hours, to minutes. I have too many examples:

When she came down a few months ago I was in the middle of going through the Babylon 5 seasons, which I had loved so many years ago. When I put one on, she said “It’s ok if you wanna watch that star trek crap. I’ll just go read and do other stuff.” Man by the end of the first episode on that disc she was on the couch, eyes set on the TV, telling me to put the next episode on NOW.

Aqua Teen Hunger Force is another show that she initially considered “Dan’s crap.” She can be heard repeating one-liners from that cartoon quite often.

She abhored mexican food (especially the spiceness) when she first met me, and declared that she would never eat it. She would eat her meals, I would eat mine. Now she eats mexican 2-3 times a week, and is the first to look for which store has avocados on sale each weekend.

The latest occurance of her flip-flopping is this unique japanase gaem I got called Katamari Damacy (i’ve been meaning to and will post about this gaem soon). She thought it was the dumbest, stupidest gaem she had ever seen. And when different friends came over wanting to play it, she would tell them how retarded she thought it was. About a week later she asked me if she could play it.

She asked me very quietly and shyly, too, as if she was starting to realize that she shouldn’t judge my sometimes eccentric tastes too quickly.

I’m sure she could write a much longer post about a few of my oddities that she has to put up with. We have been having a lot of fun together, especially now that we are more settled into married life (in the same country, in the same room).

it smells bad

May 19, 2006 at 8:18 am (everything in between)

Liz spilt her tea and it went under the couch. We moved the couch and she wiped it up and told me to leave the couch like that so it could air dry. I did … for a while. After she went to bed I moved the couch back so I could sit on it while playing Chrono Trigger. Now our house smells like horrible mildew. It's probably on account of the gross amounts of milk she puts in her teas. She says its on account of me moving the couch back.
